Maotai liquor - where can I get?

    Good day,

Hello everyone, I am new to this Forum and from Toronto, Canada. I will be visiting Hong Kong in February and was wondering where is the best place to get Maotai liquor in HK? What is the average price? Thanks!

Not really seen it around (and it could be because I've not looked for it).... seems to be more of a mainland concoction.

most larger grocery stores will have it ( eg, park n shop and wellcome), just they have mui kwei liquor and rice wine, however, i give you a warning, this is almost like rocket fuel (strength wise as well as taste wise) and after taste will linger for hours (not the nicest of liquors)

it's almost as bad a grappa or moonshine!!

if you want the genuine stuff you could try the liquor store on Lockhart rd west of the canal street overpass

the old style chinese liquor stores will prob stock the genuine maotai which is from Guangsai i think

(on the mainland it is widely available even in the relatively small stores though many fakes if you are going to shenzen easy to buy it there)

You could also try China Product stores -there is one the corner of Nathan and Jordan rd-products bought here are usually good price and the real deal

also see if it is available at the duty free stores at the airport and you could get it when you leave

Thats the best thing about it, its rocket fuel, a few shots of that stuff and your toasted already.

when i was a teenager, a bunch of us would buy a bottle of rice wine or bamboo liquor from 7-11, at that time it was I thinks, $10 a bottle and being skint teenagers that was the best/cheapest way to get wasted.

I did that with a bottle of snake wine when I was in my teens. I definitely got wasted!

Thank you all - the brand I was looking for is specifically Kweichow Moutai (as seen from the link). It is a gift for my brother as he is an enthusiast. I wonder how much it costs? Very expensive here in Canada (120 CA$ at the LCBO)
