    Dial A Dinner

Dial a Dinner is pure quality.

But my question is this - are you supposed to tip the delivery guy? They always look extremely unimpressed on my doorstep when I pay the correct change...

If so, what kind of percentage?

Obviously yes of course you tip them.
I would tip around $20 if I was to get a delivery.

I don't use Dial a Dinner specifically, but hot food delivery people tend to get around $10 or maybe a little more (depending on how the price fits with the change I have).

By the way, some of the restaurants have their own delivery service which is cheaper. Dial a Dinner (and Food by Fone etc) add 10-15% to the restaurant prices.

    Cool, good to know.

I think the guy tonight was extra annoyed because not only did I not tip him, but I paid with a $500 note and wanted all the change.

Still, it means I'm stocked up with small notes for Lai See tomorrow...

Talking of Lai See, what's the norm? There are a couple of assistants in my office who have helped me settle in - would I give them envelopes?

And what about the concierge dude downstairs at my apartment block?

Any advice on amounts and so on would be appreciated...

typically only married couples give out lai see to unmarried couples, but yes - you should give them out. XD my family gave lai see to the garbage women in our village, it's a nice gesture especially to people who you see every day.

To the OP regarding laisee for the ´concierge dude´ I would think a crisp $100 bill would not be amiss especially if you want him to remember you.

Also if the DaD dude is the same one most of the time then slap him with a $100 laisee to make up for the times you stiffed him.

After all you don´t want him to keep spitting in your chicken tikka maasala anymore do you?

Food by Web is also a good option. As it is an aggregator site for a number of delivery services (including Dial-a-dinner) who all seem to have their own (more or less) exclusive arrangements with the various restaurants, it saves you figuring out which one is the delivery service for the specific restaurant that you want to order from. Also allows you to collect loyalty points on all your orders - although they deleted all my credits at one point!?
