Are you talking about mortar and pestle, or something electric? I've seen them in the wet markets. (shops around Wanchai market)
Otherwise a coffee grinder works just as well!

I think it kinds of boils down to personal choice and degree of laziness. Mortar and pestle will give you chunky and uneven bits unless you are very very patient (not me) The coffee grinder is good as it is small and compact and you can then choose if you want the spices to be coarser or finer. Don't think I have ever seen a spice grinder before...

Check out Fortress, normal blenders but in all sizes, the smaller ones are good for grounding spices and not that expensive, around HK$400.

plenty of choice in coffee grinders at Sogo and Wing On.

I love my cooking and grind my indian spices in a coffee grinder for years and it works perfectly. However, recently on a trip to India I bought one of those Indian made multi purpose grinders for spices, chutneys etc and it works like a charm.

If you need one asap then just get a small coffee grinder.
