Ok, I've not realised that half decent mattresses in HK are comparatively more expensive than in the UK.
Any suggestions on what brand and where to buy from, possibly from smaller retailers that don't try to rip people off?
Cheers!

Doh! Spelt the subject wrongly
i thought the cheapest matresses are from Ikea? iv checked some of the other mattress shops and they cost something like HK$3000+ for a double whereas the ones in Ikea are about HK$1000.
don't know about the quality, but after sleeping in hostels and on airport floors... anything soft is appreciated!
Wing On have a big sale on at the moment for mattresses:
33% off simmons, 50% off slumberland
They're still pricey, but much better quality than the Ikea ones.
Sale finishes Sunday.
Thank you all for your replies!
Depends on what you are looking for.
I got myself a three-fold mattress from Sea Horse for $300 each. They are very comfortable and I sleep well on them.
Yep Sea Horse is great. Sleeping on one now. I got my on a good deal..and they sell pillows, bed sheets...
Local brand Airland is good as well. Western style mattresses (similar to Sealy, etc) without the absurd pricing. Way better than Ikea mattresses. Sea Horse is known for making slabs of brick and selling them as mattresses. Newer ones might be nicer, I dunno. When I think Sea Horse, I think of the old school blue-striped mattresses...
Having researched mattresses a point just short of obsession a year ago, I would say that Airland is not at all similar to the western brands, both in construction quality and feel. Very simply, Airland still tend towards the much harder end of the spectrum and their springs don't provide much in the way of independent support. Still, they *are* much more affordable.
If I recall correctly, Seahorse only make foam mattresses, and yes, they do seem to use foam that resembles concrete.
Seahorse also sells 2-3 spring mattresses which appear to be reasonably comfortable. They are less than 2K for a double
