Local organic veggies delivered to your home AND help the disabled!

    This sounds really great!

    Local Organic Vegetable Express (LOVE)

It's a HK government-recognised social enterprise that provides employment to the disabled. I really love their idea of delivering locally-grown organic vegetables right to your door! Has anyone tried their service? I will definitely give it a try.

The fruits and veggies available change according to the season, which makes perfect sense. So much better than buying ridiculously priced organic veg from overseas at Citysuper!

A friend in the office signed up to this - they showed me the first batch - it was ok, but you would have to like your veggies complete with the mud and lacking fancy appearance that is inherent in organic veggies ... the mixture was also too eclectic for my liking! And sometimes just one item of something (I recall there was one beetroot - what can I do with just one beetroot?).

Anyway - a good idea worth supporting if you like organic veggies!

Thanks for the reply! I guess mud is not too much of a concern for me. They have an ordering form that is changed every week so I guess you can pick what to order. Will try soon!

Also found a whole bunch of info from Next Magazine this week. Seems there are at least organisations that do organic food delivery. Will take a look too.

Also found that the HK Vegetable Marketing Organisation also delivers. It's cheaper than LOVE, but then again it's much bigger and does not have a social enterprise element to it. Order form for this week -

Sounds like a very good service. I might give it a go. I eat loads of veg but never tried organic, but I don't mind mud and weird shapes.

For "LOVE", there is a membership fee plus the cost of the veggies. The membership fee is $50 for 6 months or $100 for 12 months. As for the delivery, minumum order is 5 types / pack of veggies. They cost about $25 per pack (e.g. 1 pumpkin, 0.6kg of eggplant or cucumber etc.). Minimum order once a week. So per week cost is $125 minimum.

For the HK Vegetable Marketing Organisation, no membership fee is required. Minimum order is $200 to qualify for delivery. Cost of veg is about $16 per 0.6 kg of cucumber, $14 per 0.6 kg of eggplant and $12 per 0.6 kg of leek (buy one get one free this week!).

Again, LOVE is a social enterprise. VMO is sort of a Government organisation.
