Where to buy English Books in HK (NOT online please!!)

    Hi,

I've been searching for past threads on buying English books in HK and most of them are regarding online purchasing. But does anyone know of any large book stores? I've heard there's one in Tsim Sha Tsui - but where exactly? And one at Tai Koo?

    Many thanks.

Page One, Dymocks & Swindon are the main three chains I believe.

There is a very good second hand English bookshop just off the escalator in Soho near Lyndhurst Terrace. They have a very wide selection and it will save you a fortune over buying books new.

They also buy back unwanted books.

There's a Page One in TST, inside Harbour City on the third floor, near the City 'Super. It's probably their best branch, especially for non-fiction, since the store in Central closed.

You could also take a look at Bookazine, which has a decent selection of fiction and magazines.

As mentioned, there are no Borders, Barnes and Noble, Waterstones or Foyles type stores in this city.

I suspect there are, but the books would be in Chinese.

How many Borders, Barnes and Noble, Waterstones, Foyles type stores are there in, say, London for books in Chinese?

Also Commercial Press. Large store in Star House in TST but can be found all over HK.

To be honest, I've never looked for Chinese Language books in London, well, apart from reference.

But, Youngs in Warwick Street and Grant and Cutler are two quite substantial foreign language bookstores in London. Moreover, the last time I checked, they spoke mostly French in Paris and yet they have Shakespeare and Co. Also, the Spanish language bookstore near St Suplice (forget the name) has a bigger selection of poetry than what I have seen, in English, in any bookstore here.

In every way, English has a much higher profile in HK than it does Paris, or than Spanish does in either Paris or London. To be honest, I quite like the bookstores here, especially Page One. But, I am surprised there isn't at least one big store in English.
