Copy watch? Copy Bag? come look....

While walking around TST my curiosity finally got the better of me and I wanted to have a look and find out prices and such. So I go up to some tiny flat and get shown the goods.

So he starts off at 1200 for a bag or watch, after telling him I'd rather go to lady's market to go see how much they will offer or maybe come back in a few weeks. Then he drops prices to 600 each if i buy a few. In the end left there thinking no way, over priced to catch to tourist which i an't.

    So on to my questions:

What kind of prices for a copy watch that might last a week or two? (currently i have a 10 year old HK copy that still working)

How much for a good copy bag?

Where to go, touts? Lady's market or get train to border and go shopping there?

I've read some old post from a few years back where people say 200 - 400 for a good copy watch or bag, are those prices still valid?

Thanks all for any advise in advance.

    MrB

The Strife buys very good 'AAA' copy watches for visitors for HK$200. She goes shopping for bags in SZ cos it's cheaper.

Frankly I can't stand being hassled by the lucky men in TST and will have nothing to do with it.

i went for fun into one of those upstairs secret flats in TST...it was like the chinese mafia. i was having fun....and they were NOT. they got really pissed when i told them im not a tourist and that the cost is far greater then any bags sold in mongkok or shenzhen...and yet the quality is the same.

needless to say i went running for the door faster then i ever have when they all stood up.

    also...i should say:

i do not think there is a problem with "copy" goods. you get what you pay for. the quality of the good copy guys is equal to any of the big name brands.

the reason you are paying more for LV and such is not because of quality, its because of brand image. LV needs to pay a lot for their presence and style around the world, with advertisers, models, luxury stores, designers, labor, material, etc.

these copy guys only pay for the labor and material...much easier when you dont have a brand image to control

but...thats not to say the bum in the alley with the briefcase of broken copy watches is good quality. you still need to tell difference between good and bad build qualities

But (if you read the sensationalist media) by supporting <insert non advertising distribution channel> you are supporting [terrorism|organised crime|sweatshop labour] (pick one)!!!

I had a bit of a blank with this bit : <insert non advertising distribution channel>

I was trying to imply that in that field you would put the name/brand of a distribution method (e.g. dodgy guys on the street selling rolexes) who don't pay the media channel for advertising.

E.g. is Nike immune from mainstream media attacks because they spend lots on advertising?

And yes, Load Toad got my (not very eloquent) drift
