What's the idea behind coffee creamer? When I look at the ingredients, it's all chemicals. Why not use milk?

    Hi HKFoot,

Thanks for your info. Does unsweetened = sugarfree tho?
I'm new to the nutrition department.

    Thanks again!

    Hi bookblogger,

Thanks for the idea, but my friend has a lactose allergy.

Eh? Sorry, but no. There are lots of naturally occurring sugars that won't be listed as separate ingredients in many things.

But for the case of Coffeemate I think the ingredients vary a bit around the world, but a typical one (Canada):

GLUCOSE SYRUP, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (MAY CONTAIN COCONUT, PALM KERNEL AND/OR SOYBEAN OIL), SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE), DIPOSTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, MONOGLYCERIDES, ACETYLATED TARTARIC ACID ESTERS OF MONO- AND DYGLYCERIDES, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR, COLOUR

So the number one ingredient is essentially sugar.

It's totally free of anything healthy.

Ah I see. But also an allergy to sugar?

Whenever I look at the ingredients of sugar-free products, they usually contain all sorts of dubious chemicals: aspartame, phenylalanine, etc. Certainly not healthy stuff.
