    hi

    thanks for all the help
i saw the park and shop one last night in whampoa. its very near where my partner works. we nipped into a supermaker which you had to go downstairs to get to. it had a green sign i think and was next to a bakery. im not sure if was the park and shop or another one?

i dont shop at sainsburys in the UK, i usually shop at morrisons or adsa which do seem to be quite a bit cheaper than sainsburys. sainsburys does do very nice fresh food though.

    just as an example

chicken breast in justco 48 HKD per kg (i think these were on offer).
frozen chicken breast in the one downstairs 33.8 HKD per kg.

1l skimmed milk is about 18 HKD over here but its about 0.20 HKD in the UK.

1kg Quaker oats in Justco is 35 HKD.
1kg oats in the one downstairs is 10 HKD.

those are just some price differences off the top of my head.

im not sure if i went to welcome or park and shop ill have a look tonight.

If it had a green sign you were probably in Wellcome.

I think you need to stop comparing UK prices to HK prices. Things cost what they cost here.

I agree with Claire. I was like this but getting use to local prices now. I go to places where there is a good deal or Mrs E know where is the best place to buy things.
The only time i will get things from the UK which can not be brought here (i.e. Kenco coffee) is when i know a member of the family is coming back for a holiday.

OK - I'll do it with Asda prices...

ASDA Fresh Chicken Breast fillets are currently £7.68/kg; I can't see a price for frozen since they don't offer them online.
Wellcome is $24.90 for 1.5lb (about HK$36.50/kg) for frozen chicken fillet.

Eh? 1 litre of skimmed milk in the UK is not 0.20 HKD (that would be less than 2 pence). In Asda its own label fresh skimmed milk is currently 79.2p/litre (that's about 10HKD).

1kg of Quaker Oats in Asda is £1.66, which is about 20 HKD.
In Wellcome it's HK$24.90 for 800g., but own brand is only $11.50/kg.

And mine are directly from the websites.

Again, if it's fresh then it's a bit more expensive here. But for non-perishables, if you look around for brands other than the ones you're used to (and particularly own brand - which means "No Frills" and "First Choice" for Wellcome) then they are cheaper in most cases it seems to me.
