PCCW scam - How dangerous is this & what should I do?

I just couldn't understand why they need me to turn my computer on for them.
Just had the same thing happen to me EXCEPT I let them in as we had had PCCW upgrading cables in our building, so it seemed legit. they wrote down something from the back of the Modem...building super called later and told me not to let them in as they were not supposed to be there...I said too late....

Now wondering what nasty things they can do with whatever info they wrote down from the back of the modem - what should I do? Should I ring PCCW and ask for a new modem?

They can't do anything with the number from the modem - that's just part of the "theatre" they use to try to get you to sign a new contract. If you didn't sign anything then you should be OK. Check your next bill carefully to make sure nothing has changed.

Thanks for your replies. Have been kind of worried about this one......No, I definitely didn't sign anything - but they asked for my email address (which I didn't give them) and that's why I've wondered what they could do with the two pieces of info (from back of modem and email address). BTW they had all the PCCW ID etc.

By the way, here's an email that I got from them today. Perhaps related... although, I don't see any reason for them to send people in to check your modem serial number as they already have it.

Interesting that they've started using the Hong Kong Telecom brand again ...

Also Bloody NETVIGATOR, already 5th time calling them. Waste of my time and no one can resolve this. I am suddenly being charged MEDIA Basic Plan, MOOV Basic Plan, uHub Super Pack. I did not agree to any of this. And now after 5th time calling 1000 number. All pretend they have no clue why this happen or how to stop it except reminding that if I don't pay, they will cut my service off. Bloody NETVIGATOR. If you guys are reading this, stay away from ALL of these companies, NETVIGATOR, PCCW, NOW, 3C all owned by monopolist Richard Li.

I hear similar crap service from friends all the time, but they treat me well because I've been a long time customer. Aftersales support is very good too…. depending what you consider good. PCCW has replaced by NOWTV unit some 5-6 times for free, waived a few charges and whatever due to errors on their part… but of course they made the errors to begin with.

I've been a longtime customer too, back from when it was Hong Kong Telecom, and the level of service one receives from PCCW has nothing to do with that. I had all that MOOV crap and I cancelled it. PCCW insisted I hadn't but I could prove it so they had to (reluctantly) refund the money they took from me. They even tried to fob me off with monthly re-repayments. And when my iPhone contract ended and there was an over-payment, they did not automatically refund me the money. No, I had to call them up and demand it.

It's not by accident that PCCW is trying to rebrand itself. Look at the mobile phone sector; buy another company and call yourself by that because you're made such a bad name for yourself.

I have a very good salesperson to handle all my accounts with PCCW. Even he helped me to cancel the NOW TV, and the tips how to get the best benefits within his control. I know I'm lucky!
