Anyone know where I can find some peppercorns and chinese chillies in HK?

There is an old thread but maybe someone has some updated places?

Any wetmarket will have Sichuan peppercorns. Many shopowners may not speak english so best go and print out the chinese word before you ask around at the local wetmarket. We bought some about a month ago in Happy Valley wet market.

From Wikipedia : huājiāo (花椒; literally "flower pepper")

As for Chinese Chillies : that term is overly broad. There are many things that can be referred to as Chinese Chillies. If you know what they look like or have the more specific name for them, find the translation and take it to the wetmarket. It will be there.

It does have a very nice flavour but you have to be a little careful when cooking. Make sure you dont overcook it as it will lose its flavour quite easily. Put it into your dish closer to the end of the cooking cycle.

Also, if you coat steaks with it and then cook the steak at high temperature, the flavour also disappears. Sprinkle it on towards the end.

    We love the stuff :-)

You're gonna have to use a bit of footwork to complete your wish of finding your options then.

Print out the name of the stuff as I suggsested earlier in the thread and start asking around the supermarkets. I have no idea if any of them carry the stuff; I do know you can find them at wetmarkets.

Pls let us know what you find.
