    Moving patients back to homeland

My FIL, who is on dependent visa, fell sick and got admitted to local hospital. He is now undergoing rehab treatment. Though he was quite serious when admitted, his condition is now stable. But he has become very very weak and not moving much. He is on nasal feeding as he has problem swallowing. Now, he wants to go back to India once discharged. Could anyone please suggest ways to take him back to India? How much will be the approx. cost? Medical escorts...stretchered...any info would be of great help.

Anyone faced such situation before? How did you handle it?

Why on earth would he want to go back before he is recovered? Hk medical facilities are much better. . . I would try and encourage him to stay for the sake of.his health.

He wants to go to go only after he is discharged. According to Doctors here, there may not be much improvement in his condition (i.e. as far as his mobility is concerned)and the best possible way to take care of him is to put him in elderly care home. We defenitely don't want that.

The cheapest way to take him back would be in a box.

Why do so many old people want to go somewhere else to die?

Here you can hire a DH to look after him and still have access to excellent medical care. That way he might last longer!

To each his own I guess. I have no idea of the costs involved in transport, but I have been on a flight (to Canada) with a stretchered patient on board. The airline had taken out 6 seats and replaced them with a bed which had drips and such. There was also an accompanying nurse along for the ride.

That alone would suggest you would need to pay for at least 7 seats plus a whole host of handling charges. Here is a company that arranges these flights :
Air Medical Group - Flight Services

There is also the other option of hiring a private plane. There are many that offer such services, here is just one : Air Ambulance - Medical Flights - Med Flight - Air Ambulance Services
I would expect that this would be hugely expensive too.
