MPF has got nothing to do with Permanent residency.

The oath confirms that your leaving HK and want to cash in your pension and that if u do decide to return then u cannot withdraw it again until retirement.

But someone on this forum said its always good to leave a bit in you MPF account, saves the hassle in case you come back. Maybe getting a copy of the oath in advance would help.

That would be really funny though, on the one hand you take an oath that your permanently leaving HK and u can have your MPF money back and then at the airport HK Immigration asks you to surrender your permanent ID card.

Old thread, but still a topical issue: why not just leave it all in Hong Kong in an MPF and draw down / annuitize upon retirement? Perhaps I am missing a trick, but I don't see what "leaving Hong Kong" has to do with having a private personal pension pot (albeit on that stays with an MPF provider in the HKSAR until you reach retirement age).

I have two MPF accounts (opened with different employers, never merged). I wonder if, on leaving Hong Kong, I can close/withdraw from one but keep the other?

Not really, it all reports back to the MPF authority.

I am in the same situation and assume I will incur tax liability with the IRS (US Treasury) from a lump sum withdraw. I am sure my employer contributions were not taxed.

I have already left HK so wondering if anyone knows how I can get the MPF(S)-W(SD2) form signed abroad? Do I have to go to HK to do all this?
