    Moving to SINGAPORE from HK

I am Dan, an university student also a self-employed programmer. I want to move to Singapore for better career. I am 22 and from Hong Kong. I would like to move to the area which there are more foreigners and more modern city. Actually, i want to move to a place near my future school. Here are some area options available.

    1. TripleOne Somerset ,111 Somerset Road, Unit #06-01/02
    Singapore
2.355 Jalan Bukit Ho Swee, Singapore
    3.461 Clementi Road, 599491
    Singapore
    4.No 3 Anson Road, Springleaf Tower,Level 6, 079909 Singapore

Please kindly let me know which region is better. I will move to singapore with my girlfriend. She wants to work there too so we really want to seek a central and convenient point.

Look foward to all of your replies.
    Dan

Would it not be better to post this in a Singapore expat forum? I googled one, not sure if its as good for info as this forum though.

Agree - Simon has posted a good site - but do NOT use the other Expatsingapore.com. They make the more aggressive posters on Geo seem like bunny rabbits!

What is your definition of a 'foreigner' in Singapore Danny boy?

Agree, here in Singapore, foreigner population is very high be it Chinese nationals, Indian Nationals, Pinoys etc., iirc foreigners constitute 30% of the population, and they're literally everywhere.

From the options you listed, option 3 clementi is in the western part of singapore, relatively far off if you work in a central area. If you're looking for a more central location, option 1 and 4 is better, although it's good to define what you mean by 'central'.

111 Somerset is in the heart of Orchard Road, so you're smack in the middle of the shopping district.

Anson Road is closer towards the Central Business District and all the upcoming financial hub area, so it really depends on where you work.

Thanks TERRY. Actually, I can work at home as my job is pretty flexible. However, i want to live with a place which is more entertaining, like more food, bar and club etc.
As my girlfriend is British, so I just want to live in area with more Caucasians. So, if I want to have more caucasians, option 3 will be better. But if for food and shopping, 111 Somerset will be better?

May I know are these options near with each other?

    Oh dear.

Dan, there are at least 10 million British people who aren't caucasians, and I'd be very surprised if your girlfriend chooses her friends by race.

By the way, do you have some sort of immigration status that allows you to reside in Singapore?

Hi Dan, it would seem you have chosen a few rather good place to live at. Would like to know what is your budget for rental? The places you have set your eyes upon are rather pricey. =]

And just to check, where is your school exactly? Since choice no.3 is rather far west of the Island and the others are rather centralized.

Though worded rather strangely, I think he was implying that himself and his girlfriend want to move to a more ethnically diverse place. Hong Kong is 96% ethnic chinese. I don't think his girlfriend chooses her friends by race, but she may want to expand her horizons and live in a more ethnically diverse neighborhood. I can relate after living in NYC and now here. I miss the diversity of NYC. In NYC it doesn't seem like their is a predominant race/ethnicity...their isn't an 'us' and a 'them'.
