Has anyone done this with success? Agencies? Lawyers? Any help is appreciated.

I know a family did this a few years ago, and her husband was being transferred on a temporary assignment. You do need to pay her US wages, and follow the local labour laws.
The process is very well documented here, you dont need any lawyers nor agencies : http://www.ustraveldocs.com/hk/hk-ni...icemployee.asp
My understanding is that if you are going to USA on a temporary basis and want to take your helper, it will be relatively straight forward.
If you are actually moving back permanently, its extremely difficult at best with most cases being rejected.
