Margin trading. However, you probably don't have enough capital to make an initial deposit with a broker. 42k HKD really is nothing in any major world currency.

Blackjack on red/black seems a more viable option.

Equities, you won't win for sure. Individual investors typically lose. Some might say to do bonds and mutual funds but at best you might double your money over 20 years.

42K HKD, you could buy some Bitcoin. If it goes mainstream in the next 10 years, it could easily increase 100 fold or ......

For something basic you're going to need $5-6m HK now! Lord knows what it's going to be in 10 years.
if 1997 is anything to go by your 5-6 M will be 1M in 10 years.

Btw you can get plenty of "decent" flat in HK for less than 6M, it is called the New Territories and it is going to be small somehow 500sqf etc.

Just buy 500 shares of HSBC 0005 @ $61.75 = $30k. Take the other $12k to Macau and have a bit of fun with it. Enjoy getting a $2k dividend every year.

At that amount of money, you're likely to lose more in transaction costs and broker's fees than you would gain in return from any equity strategy. Even if you got lucky and found some strategy that gave you 10 years of solid 20% returns, you'd have less than HKD300k.

Sounds like what you're looking for is alchemy. If that's the case, the others are right. Just got to Macau.

Otherwise, just park the money somewhere safe and you'll have a decent chunk of change to do something nice with.

Buy the index. Forget it. Will make an average return for low cost. Won't get a house.

OP, did you miss off a zero in the amount? That's the only way I see you thinking that 45K (450K) can reach $5-6 million in 10 years, and even then what will a current $5-6 million property cost in a decade...

i understand your willingness to treat it as house money and take some risks with it. but anyone with any ideas here is either a) hoping to scam you out of the money, or b) going to keep the ideas to themselves.

i'm not without sympathy for your plight, though - 42k, it's a lot to lose, but not a lot to do something with.
