You know it's time to leave Asia when . . .

The shoe prints on the toilet seat are yours.

While on a home visit you try to haggle with the sales clerk over the price of a loaf of bread.

You no longer mentally calculate how much something costs in your home currency.

The kids are more attached to the helper than the grandparents.

Since when have you haggled over the price of a load of bread?

Since when have you stood on the toilet seat?

Why would I calculate stuff in my home currency? Its not like I am buying the stuff from my home country.

    When....
...you barge into people on the street and no longer realise it's rude
...you happily drink hot water in restaurants and no longer think it's strange
...you consider it normal to go into a shop and go "want ...[points to picture on mobile phone].." with no preamble

Does anyone else mentally convert HKD to USD?

I do it all the time, and I'm not American.

I do it too and sometimes into GBP -- not a Yank nor a Brit but travel quite a bit and its useful to have a "base" currency to work with. For some reason, HKD just doesnt register as a base currency in my head.

Multiply by 8 is easier than divide by 8

I still often convert to pounds, mainly because it's quite easy... but I've been here for less than 2 years
