Stick around for long enough and you'll find there is a very narrow path and lots of little unwritten rules; what you can and can't complain about, which social groups are fair game and which ones are taboo, etc, etc...

It's like a playground... you'll see some popular kids stray off piste a bit too much and become billy-no-mates for a while until they pull their heads in, a bit of virtue signalling here, a bit of virtue signalling there, and all's forgiven usually.

I have yet to explore and see the whole world so I've no intention to stay here longer than two years. Of course, I love this place very much but something always seems to be missing. Maybe It's just me.

So after over 6 years in HK were moving. I have mixed feelings about this. In many ways its a very frustrating place which is hard to live in. Housing and schooling are so disproportionately expensive. Wages do not increase in line with rent increases. You'll constantly be moving, unable to call any place home. I work 6 days per week (half day on Sat) from 7am til 6pm (min and with travelling time (as you will need to live far away from HK island if you want somewhere livable) meaning little time with family and to relax. When i first came the shear number of people constantly bumping into me was an issue, however you get used to this along with all of the other HK traits which are hard to deal with. Ultimately we're leaving as a) we'd never be able to afford to buy a house, b) job security is none existent, c) I don't like the worsening political situation and d) I want fun, space and freedom.

I'm not sure if you got longer term visa or not but aren't you gonna wait for PR? I mean you've got less than an year to go and also it's good to have an option in case you wanna return in future.

I left after six years. If you have no intention of making HK home why wait for PR?

Good point, Hull.

When i bought my house here few years go, I had all the intentions in the world of making HK my home. But, the situation has changed, much faster than the times. As much as I'd want to leave now, I cant due to family commitments and vested interests so having hkpr provides me security in case I do wish to return later.

My wife is from HK originally so PR isn't an issue. I could come back whenever I want. Just cant see me ever wanting to.
