    Past tax year offets

I left Hong Kong in June of 2019 - my tax was calculated not including the newly announced tax relief for that tax year. By my calculation HK Tax Office owes me about 20k. Any idea when this will be refunded?

Interested in this as me and the wife will be in the same situation next year. Do they take details of where you have moved to/contact details. How will they get any refund to you?

Yes they took my contact details when I left and I'm expecting second half of this year to get something back

Update that I received today on etax (alerted by email) that they've reassessed the tax year 2018-19 and i'm due a 20k hkd refund. No mention of how this will be paid back but I assume they'll send me a cheque. Will update again once it happens.

I wish they'd get with the 21st century and do bank transfers. A cheque is useless when you can't pay it in!

I got a $20k cheque. But it went to the wrong address. Somehow it went back to them, then they sent me a message through the tax portal that I can update my address or have it sent to a friend. I've replied to them asking if they can just bank it straight into my HK bank account for me. This was about 2 weeks ago, no reply yet and just waiting.

Anyway, I'm expecting a property tax bill from them for more than $20k soon because I own property in HK that I am renting out. So in one hand and out the other. Hopefully when this comes I can just offset from this and pay them the difference.

I was told direct bank transfers were not possible. Even with my MPF, with HSBC to my HSBC bank account) they refused to do a transfer because it was a joint account with my wife. Sole named accounts only. However, they were happy to send it to a friends address. and for them to pay it into the same account for me
