    Shipping delays

We left Hong Kong 3 months ago, having placed our treasured possessions with a well-known international moving company. We went for a grouped shipping option, because we only had 300 ft3.

In the 14 weeks since we said goodbye to our stuff, it has travelled...nowhere.

First we were told it was because they needed to have a full container and were waiting for other shipments. Then it was because they couldn't get a container because of COVID.

Anyone with any knowledge of shipping from Hong Kong know what the situation is re containers etc?

Where is the shipment supposed to be going? Are you liable for the storage whilst waiting for a full container load or is the moving company covering this?

AFAIK there is no disruption of services to container shipping due to covid.

Perhaps they are just avoiding the very high costs at the moment.

Sorry to hear that, part shipments can take for ever. Suggest you find out who is the MD and go straight to the top with your enquiry

Or just pay for a whole container yourself and avoid another 3 month wait.

    Sorry to hear this, kimwy!

The bad news is that shipping disruptions have totally become a thing this year. Friends in the field tell me that a lot of routes that multiple companies sailed weekly a year ago are now only being serviced by one company once a month. Some ports go into / out of lockdown in a sort of maritime whack-a-mole - there's no saying whether or not a ship will be able to reach them in one of the "open" times.
Shipping agent friends are going quietly bonkers!
