Lucky sim HK$138 for 3 years, works out to HK$3.83/month. This will allow you to receive SMS in Canada.
Or if you want full roaming in Canada, there is a 6 year option for $328. Works out to HK$4.55/month. But you dont get much data with that, only 5GB spread over 6 years
To port current number to lucky SIM, have to visit one of their locations in HK, cannot do it online unless you want a brand new number.

I ended up joining Birdie on their HKD50/ month plan. Receiving SMS overseas no problem.
I see birdie offering some attractive packages for port ins

I use the China Mobile prepaid - 50 bucks every six months is enough to keep the card alive and good for receiving OTP SMS at no charge.
(and as a bonus - assuming not used for anything else - over time the value will accumulate and if visiting HK for a holiday or somesuch - then can use without paying any extra)
