The UK was fantastic for contracting. All my friends told me about the great day rates they could run all their contracting through a UK LTD company and only pay 20% and reduce their taxable base by expensing costs and claiming vat.

A few years ago they brought IR35 regulation that put an end to contracting through LTD firms. It forced many to get full time jobs instead of contracting their own companies.IR35 will be scrapped next year.

For those of us that run our own HK companies this is great news, means that relocating to the UK doesn't have to mean losing so much tax.. One of the things putting me off moving to the UK was a possible 40-50% tax bill corporate tax is 20%.
