shipping small amounts to the US

Does anyone have experience shipping smaller amounts to the US? I'll be moving, but I don't have that much stuff to ship. Everything I've seen has been talking about shipping 40 boxes or something like that, and I am just wanting to send like 5 boxes or so.

Anyone have experience with that? Can you ship by sea when it's such a small amount? Or is air shipping better? Any good company recommendations?

if you're in no rush for the stuff, just send it by surface mail at the post office. When I was younger, I sent a few boxes by surface mail - stuff like seasonal clothing (eg ski jackets etc), photo albums and negatives (this was back when we still had photos). it'll take a while but is the most cost effective way. Also make sure there's nothing of high monetary value or high sentimental value, as well as making sure nothing that will fall foul of customs, then you should be ok. I cant vouch for the USPS though...my own experience has been with the UK, HK, and Japanese post offices.
