Leaving without notifying immigration

    Leaving without notifying immigration

    Hi All -
Not sure if this scenario was covered already.
Assuming I've paid off 2023 taxes already and do not have any 2024 income to report, and keep my MPF open, are there any repercussions to leaving Hong Kong "permanently" and not informing IMMD (immigration department)? Is it mainly ensuring I fill in the paperwork for 2024 taxes regardless of income? I'm not currently employed by an HK company and already have PR status with 3 stars so no employee visa support needed for future visits.

Any other considerations that I'm missing?

I've left without "informing" immigration (is that a thing?) when my first visa was up and then came back three months later when I got a new job/visa. Still got PR after seven years though.

    How do you inform immigration?

The tax thing is related to IRD and not immigration and specifically relates to employer issues.

Ah, thanks all. I assumed the departments (IRD and IMMD) talked to each other.

I had informed / wrote to IRD earlier in the year and cleared my taxes. However, ended up traveling in Asia quite a bit and didn’t actually leave Hong Kong yet by my original intended date. If I move end of year instead and don’t update IRD, would they just send me the FY24 assessment and I’d be on the hook for responding?

Just tell them then clear the taxes even if it's zero. No need to complicate things for yourself if you ever want to return.

If you are worried about RoA, it has no impact. That's determined based on your entry exit records

The OP has a 3* HKID, so they probably have HK citizenship and ROA for life.

Then why would there EVER be any reason to talk to, let alone "inform" immigration? I'm so confused
