The best way to answer this question is to read the contract that you signed! How can you expect us to know what it says?

If you're not coming back then you could do the unethical thing of not settling it?

If your contract allows account transfer during contract period, you can resell it for a steep discount. This way you pay only a percentage of penalty.

Under the contract, you're liable for full payment.

You're unlikely to get anywhere through CS on the phone. Physically go the their CS shop. Tell them you're not paying and you're leaving. Try and negotiate. Kick up a fuss.

Show them your flight ticket and maybe your shipping details etc

Do mobile phone operators allow account transfers? What happens when they run up a massive roaming bill? Who is responsible?

Why would someone want to take up when SoSim is so cheap and there's no hassle?

I remember a number of years ago when I left the old country I had about a year remaining on an internet contract with Vodafone. I sent them an email stating I was willing to negotiate and return their modem. Never got a response to that. Funnily enough they were quick to email after the first missed payment.

They emailed a few times threatening this and that but never pursued it.

Is it an ethical issue? Maybe. Do they have any ethics? Definitely not.

(They have a practice, or at least at that time had a practice of selling minimum 18 month contracts with installation required and all that, when they know that almost all rental agreements are 12 months, so they know they are basically screwing tenants who leave after 12 months for whatever reason)

I did return the modem to the nearest branch.

During your meeting with CS, politely ask them to waive any early termination fees.

Show them proof eg Work termination letter or relocation letter, flight ticket, tenancy termination etc

If they still say “NO”, just take out your credit card and cut it up in front of them.

    Make a scene.

Tell them that you’ll put in a personal call to Richard.

Since when do we live in a world where contracts are not contracts?
