DDD, what I get confused about is the carb vs protein issue.
For stamina do we need mostly carbs and protein for long term muscle and body toning?
What are your goals?
Muscle and body toning implies cutting where you minimize muscle loss and reduce bodyfat to improve muscle definition, thus eating less calories than your BMR(basal metabolic rate).
For stamina/endurance training, it isn't nutrition as much as your workout. I'd opt for a low-weight, high-rep routine.
It isn't much of a carb vs. protein issue, as our body needs both. Triathletes typically have a 50% carb./30 protein/20 essential fatty acids diet, whereas bodybuilders usually adopt a diet consisting of 40% carb./40 protein/20 efas. It really depends on what your goals are.
