    Weights

    Hi,

I'm looking to do some deadlifts and squats. Does anybody have any good suggestions on where i might buy a decent squat rack, bench, barbell bar and some cheap weights. Some of you will say just go to the gym. My answer would be i'm currently looking for jobs working in hotels and if i do work in a hotel then it would be shift duty i.e. irregular hours so it is best if i can have the equipment at home and plan around my schedule.

I had a good look and could not find anything in HK. There are a few sellers on Tao Bao that can ship equipment over from the mainland. I ended up buying a rack with safety spotters from Rogue Fitness in the US and shipping it over, didn't want to take any chances while benching under that amount of weight.

Hi your talking about one of major exercise dead lift and squat. If do this 2 required proper space with heavy weights. If u hit the gym it won't take u an hour to do this 2. 5 mins warm up and Dead lift 1 warm up and 8-12 reps 3 sets 1 min rest. If u do that u can get maximum results instead of doing in the house.

Shan... he explicitly said he doesn't want advice to go to the gym. I fully understand why someone would prefer a home gym and if he's asking this question I assume he has enough space.

OP, Fatelvis' advice would be the best if money isn't the main factor

If youre looking to do it cheaper, i have heard that there is reliable stuff available on Tao bao (Chinese stuff) much cheaper, but it would require research and probably the help of a Chinese speaker/ reader. Some of the major brands are manufactured in china so it is a case of finding these genuine sources. Good luck.

Gigasports in Megabox have quite a good range of weightlifting equipment, from light to heavy. You may want to check them out.

I'm also looking to buy a rack from Rogue Fitness but they will only ship to a local port in Hong Kong. What freight forwarder did you use to pick the goods from the port?

Most of the major US brands are manufactured in China. I've worked for a long time in that industry and can tell you that it's pointless to order from the US if you can find a reliable supplier from China who you're willing to trust. You could always travel over to inspect the equipment beforehand; wouldn't be further than Guangzhou or Shenzhen I believe.

Taobao it up. That's how I work out too; if you need help, let me know, and if you want a workout buddy I'd be interested. I was working 5x5 until a few months ago. Now all I get to do is pullups, chins, dips and pressups.

A squat rack should be easy to make if you visit a metal workshop with a design, it's essentially a large wire frame cube. Joe DeFranco's gym was built just by asking welder to make the racks and such.

Got mine from TaoBao. The guy was kind enough to do them in Lbs for me instead of Kg if I didn't mind waiting a bit longer.
