For the spectators it won't matter if the pitch is in good condition but more likely the BPL teams care about it, as they don't want to jeopardize their pre- season preparation by playing on a moon surfaced pitch! Its not like they were begging 4 playing in HK I assume. Plenty of good pitches and money around (SE) Asia or other continents ( during the summer break ) I guess..

Those who rule in Beijing heard someone say "democracy requires a level playing field". They weren't having that so made sure the pitch was crap.

That's right. The press wasn't good at all. Really surprised they ( Home Affairs Bureau ) acted so quick.

    Bump up again :-)

Betty Fung, director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, said the Hong Kong Stadium is "match-ready" and she is confident the replaced turf can handle a local soccer match on Saturday, after maintenance and repair works were concluded. The department was under heavy criticism regarding the dreadful state of the pitch during a tournament prior to a match between English Premier League champions Manchester United and local club Kitchee in July, when the surface was deemed almost unplayable.
