Red face Chinese Golfer Gifting Idea Feedback -Gold "Feng Shui Pearl" Golf Balls

    Dear Fellow Expats,

During my time in Hong Kong i had this idea of developing a gifting product which aided "GuanXi" and to gained "face" with my Chinese colleagues. I eventually came up with a golfing accessory and have just launched the site and product. so i thought i would ask around the expat communities for additional feedback and suggestions.

The product is a set of nine "playable" gold golf balls that can be taken onto the golf course for a game. They are made in the USA and I am calling them " Feng Shui Pearls" marketing the product as gifts of luck, prosperity and friendship on special occasion such as Chinese New Years.

Translated the name is: 高德富來風水珍珠 ƒç¦®ç›’ (9顆個別包裝).

I would love any feedback you might have on the product or my website at: Goldflite.com
and if you know of friends who might be interested, i have a few available.

    Many thanks in advance.
    Best

I hope David Beckham doesn't see this as an opportunity to sue for trademark infringement

As someone who does business in China, you really shouldn't advertise your product like this. I'm not sure if it is a good idea or not... but if it is, it will be immediately copied.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone is on their phone to their cousin in China right now asking about making gold golf balls.

Keep your ideas close to your vest and you might get a few months profit before your ideas are stolen & copied.

How about waterproof fake golf gloves?

That way chinese gentlemen can get a golfer's "suntan" at the pool without ruining a real glove

    Hi Closedcasket,

Thanks for the tips. i am still new in e-commerce and just trying to get some feedback and the work out. Iam pretty sure the product will be copied and by someone with deeper pockets too. so i see the business model as more of trying to acquire a select group of loyal customers and building that base.

    Thanks again

As I mentioned before, just Google it and you'll find golden golf balls already out in the market, so it would be you that's copying the idea.
