    Joining a club

Does anyone have any advice on joining a club in Hong Kong? We are moving over in march and I want to find somewhere I can take my baby daughter swimming/ to do other activities. I tried the ladies recreation club but their waiting list was too long and the corporate debenture too expensive. Does anyone know if other clubs that are good, accept new members and are not crazy expensive please? We're expecting to live somewhere in mid levels so something that is easily accessible from there would be best.

Most clubs such as the one you mentioned have large debentures. Best option is to get into an apartment building with a good clubhouse and swimming pool.

On the cheaper side, there is South china Athletics Association in Causeway Bay - http://www.scaa.org.hk/catalog/index.php.

Harry Wrights also do baby swimming classes - http://www.harrywright.com.hk/

What is your budget and how do you define "crazy expensive"?
There are lots of public pools around Hong Kong, many of them suitable for babies.
There are also lots of outdoor parks as well as a number of indoor playgrounds. We used these for many years : http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/ls_fac_playroom.php

Last but not least, go and join www.geobaby.com -- lots more mums over there and they can tell you about all kinds of playgroups around Hong Kong.

HKG clubs are a nice luxury but certainly not needed if they are out of your budget.

You used to be able to purchase a membership to use the Parkview facilities, it was something like US$6k/ year if I remember (it was a while ago). Might be worth looking into. If you are American, there is a weekday membership category for use of the country club only that may be another more affordable option (annual fee of about HK$40k, plus monthly dues).

Thanks for all the helpful info. I think we would stretch to about 120,000 hk$ but not much more than that. We are not Americans, were from the uk.

Sorry, more of a yank thing I guess....famous CaddyShack quote.

If you haven't seen CaddyShack you should. A cult classic in the US that pokes fun at the "club" culture. Features Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray.

I've watched it at least a dozen times & can recite most lines.
