Try Hola + BBC iPlayer + BBC Live -> Works like a charm.

Serious Question : Whats the advantage of a hardware device?

A hardware device connects to your Big TV, in your living room, remote control, instant on, easy to use, no need to boot up a pc, etc. I agree that devices are converging now and it may be easier to mirror your laptop on your TV through airplay and what not but its still a bit of messing around every time you want to watch something.

Did I answer your question? What's the advantage to watching on your PC?

You cant go wrong with Hola...works on full PCs as well as android (no iOS) and its simple. You have access to all the backlog of stuff form BBC, Channel 5 etc etc and its as simple as can get....

I used to DL/torrent stuff like crazy from the UK - now I dont bother, Hola gets you all the stuff...

Thanks, I'll have to play around with it more to find it. Agreed it's a lot better than NowTV and much better value as long as they dont pull the plug on it.

Yes, but does it work on a TV.

I can see issues of trying to find a wife friendly set up.

I feel for all of you, partly because I have the same issues.

For me, yes, because I have a dedicated PC connected to my TV.
In the olden days, I used to torrent stuff into the NAS and then use the TV-PC to play all the shows. Now, we use Hola for all the Brit shows (and still DL movies to play on TV-PC).

Like I said, its free and trivial to setup and play with it...Let her try it out and if it doesn't satisfy, you haven't lost much...

    1) The PC is bigger but certainly not noisy.
    2) The setup I had was in the old days. No need to judge new technology by pointing to people using old equipment.

When the time comes and the PC-TV goes bust, will replace it with Chromecast; or perhaps there will be something even better then....
