Does anyone know if I can do free trials either at Physical, Pure, or California Fitness without having a HKID? My visa will be approved shortly but in the mean time I need to get some workouts in!

I doubt it - the gyms want to know if they give you a free trial you have a chance of joining.

All you can do is try. Bring your passport and tell them the situation. Say you intend to sign up when you get your hkid.
The staff are pretty keen to get their commission and it doesn't do them any harm to give you a trial, so I reckon they'd take the risk.

Suggest you don't tell that them that you're waiting for your visa to be approved. Bend the truth a little and say you're waiting for your HKID appointment with Immigration (it's true but just misses out the visa approval step as that may make the gym nervous that it won't get approved so they lose your potential business).
