A side note from the world of sports . . .
Two horses died on race day for the Preakness Stakes, overshadowing Exaggerator's victory. Kentucky Derby winner, Nyquist finished third. There will be no Triple Crown winner in 2016.

Just two minutes in and San Jose already dominating. Several great chances. Blues already forced to ice the puck twice. Lots of talk about Tarasenko's disappearing act this series. No goals. Not even an assist.

San Jose flashes a counter attack with beautiful give and go passing set up a great shot but Allen up to the challenge and makes the save. Blues have had no answer for the quick SJ counter all series long.

Blues with possession inside the Sharks zone produces a good chance and force Sharks to commit a tripping penalty. Blues 0 for last 8 power plays.

Blues with excellent puck control and after about five passes in a row, Brouwer buries it from the slot. Blues on the board. Boy did they need this!. STL 1-0 SJ.

San Jose challenging the play as a Blues offsides . . . officials taking a long, long time looking at the replays. Don't know why as TV replays show it's clearly onside. Finally officials confirm that play was onside and goal is good.

What makes me nervous as a Blues fan is that goalie Jake Allen doesn't seem to track the puck well. After the initial save, he seems to search for the location of the puck. When the puck is played behind the net, he seems to be hesitant about which way to turn.

Blues give up yet another Sharks 2 on 2 counter. Dangerous situation, but Sharks don't score. And not two minutes later Sharks with a 3 on 2. I think it's a combination of sharp Shark outlet passing and Blues pinching in the offensive zone too aggressively.

Blues score after throwing everything and the kitchen sink at goal. Blues have figured out they are going to have to score ugly. STL 2-0 SJ.

Blues penalty. San Jose with a man advantage with about 9 minutes remaining in the period.

Another scrum in front of the SJ net in the final minute of play . . . doesn't produce a goal but forces Sharks to commit a penalty.
