First period ends. STL 2-0 SJ. Blues will head into the start of the second period with about 1:30 left on their power play. Easily the best period of hockey STL has played all series. Still troublesome for STL is their inability to stop SJ's counter attack - at least four good scoring chances produced on the counter in that period.

Second period starts with Blues on PP. Sharks delay the game penalty for shooting puck into the stands. Blues with two-man advantage for 48 seconds and a clean sheet of ice.

Frustratingly, Blues looking for a pretty goal. Forgotten their success throwing puck at net and charging net. Sharks kill both penalties.

Momentum shifting as Sharks get a PP after killing off a 5 on 3.

Blues get two shorthanded scoring chances and score on the second one. Wow. STL 3-0 SJ. Air has been taken out of the arena.

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock has been mixing and matching his lines all game and it's paying off. Blues score a fourth goal! STL 4-0 SJ. Blues look like a completely different team. Shocking, really.

San Jose pull goalie Martin Jones after fourth goal. James Reimer in net for Sharks at about 10" in the second period.

Sharks player shoots puck into the Blues goal well after whistle (very bad form) and that produces some pushing and shoving.

And the result is penalties on both sides. Teams skate four on four for next two minutes.

Sharks get the better of the four on four but no goals. Both teams back at full strength with 5:45 left in the period.

Blues seem content to sit back and play defense up four goals . . . will this be a costly mistake?
