French cyclist dies travelling on Shek O Road

Buried by all the Carrie Lam news. R.I.P. only 29 years old:

Fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan

At about 8.10am, a private car driven by a 58-year old woman was travelling along Shek O Road towards Chai Wan, while a bicycle ridden by a 29-year-old man was travelling along Shek O Road towards Shek O. When approaching near Cape D'Aguilar Road, the private car reportedly collided with the bicycle.

I don't cycle in Hk, so unsure, but is this story of the cyclist loosing control likely?
Ive seen far to many unsafe drivers on that road.

It's almost certain. He was going too fast in the rain and he slid into the path of the oncoming car...it was a direct hit. There is a thread about it on HKCA FB.

Yes, very likely, especially on that road, early morning, downhill....

58 year old woman in a family car going uphill vs 29 year old man in a high performance bike, going downhill.

In absence of witness testimony or video evidence, its easy to make the obvious assumptions..

Wonder if she had a dash cam.

Sad story regardless of how it happened.

Based on the picture seems like the cyclist went round the corner and most likely slipped due to speed and wet conditions of the road and straight into the oncoming vehicle on the other side of the road. Probably why the female driver was not arrested as her car is clearly in the correct lane.

There is a "celebration" tomorrow night to honor Hugo:

    Wed 29th March
    7.30-9 PM
So Kon Po recreation Ground, 55 Caroline Hill Road

He was an avid trail runner and rugby player.

Knowing how people drive in HK, I would never attempt to cycle here, especially if I were unfamiliar with the area. If you know a cycler, let them know that cycling on HK roads is very dangerous.

Hope the cyclist rests in peace. Very sad to die suddenly while enjoying cycling.

But on the other hand, too, I feel sorry for the driver to have to go through this as well. I tense up so much on that road, even in a vehicle! So scary, and I don't know how cyclists have the nerve to go cycling there, too! Wish there could be a completely separated lane for cyclists and a wider road, but with our steep hills and cycle paths being a low priority, this isn't going to happen. :/
