It's mother nature. Super Typhoon Hagibis is forecasted to hit or hit real close to the Tokyo region. This is the kind of the thing you have to expect in this part of the world. The Northwestern Pacific is the most active tropical cyclone basin in the world (although this year, it's actually been relatively quiet in terms of the number of typhoons).

It's a shame because the Japanese have done a great job so far in organizing the World Cup. Not a surprise since the Japanese are known for their merticulous planning and management of major events. But not even the Japanese can do much when a super typhoon comes calling.

Yes that's not a big surprise they cancelled it although they considered relocating the game in another city in the south far away from the typhoon....I guess it would have been a logistics nightmare

I don't understand why they didn't move the game to Monday in Yokohama - it's a bank holiday already in Japan so that seems a much better option than cancelling it. Then offer free refunds to anyone who can't make Monday.

Fans win as they see the match, broadcasters win as they get to show an extra RWC game, the organizers and stadium win as they get matchday revenue and fewer refunds.... the teams win as they get a competitive match in before the QF's... I struggle to see who exactly loses by pushing it to Monday when the typhoon should be long past.
