    24/7 fitness

Use 24/7 fitness, no commitment, hard sale etc. I mainly use the one on Kowloon Bay, huge, maybe one if not the biggest in HK.

Thanks a lot, though I heard 24/7 is a bit of a struggle at times due to other the relatively small branches and lack of facilities (e.g. 1 squat rack for the whole gym). Have you been to other branches on HK Island? I mostly do strength and conditioning and will tend to go to Cwb or Quarry Bay

I only work in HK every now and then, been to the one at Cwb, it's tiny, not again, just trail and error, saying that if you go in the middle of the night, it'll probably be quiet! The Kowloon Bay one is just convenient for me and big. Kwun Tong is also ok depending on what time to go.

I have a thing for factual information, and dislike it when people spam misinformation or ignorance into threads, so I'll call people out if they have no idea what they are talking about. These threads get searched for years afterwards, so I believe that leaving misinformation up unchallenged is a disservice to others. It's doubtful whether the clown I was arguing with has even been to a gym, much less know anything about the specific exercise that was being argued about.

    Regarding Quarry Bay:

Snap on the corner of Westland and King (17/F) has 2 half cages. This is the place where the plates are undersize, so you can use one set of mats to bring them to to the correct height. Decent barbells- they feel to be around 28mm and have good knurling. They are very quiet during lunchtimes, busy time tends to be about 6-8pm. 6 and 12 month contracts, PTs who seem to know what they are doing. Slight caveat to this place- I think they only have 2-3 20kg bars. They have a couple of 15kg bars, but they run about 25mm so they are painful for heavy deadlifting. Decent crowd.

There's another 24 hour place in the building above the Le Parc supermarket (same building that has the F45 place in it). Have a friend who goes there, I believe there might only be one squat area. I've not been. Been told that people are friendly enough.

Waterfall is above Aeon. Would not recommend it- weird mix of plates (kg and lbs) though they have decent Ivanko bumpers. Really poor staff though- they do zero maintenance so all three of their three barbells have all seized up (they didn't even know that barbells have bearings or bushings that require maintenance). I've seen bolts fall off machines and sit on the ground for days, until I've picked them up and explained to the staff which machine they came from. I and several others have also done our own maintenance on a couple of pieces of equipment there. The barbells are terrible- one has fully rusted, and the two newer bars are at 30-32mm, chromed and very lightly knurled, so they're pretty hard to hold on to for deadlifting. None of them are even branded, they are that cheap.

The personal trainers at Waterfall are terrible- they teach their clients useless exercises and leave plates lying all over the place.

Physical is also in that building- I've seen some pretty horrific hygiene practices in the change room, so dropped that one pretty quick.

The Pure is, of course, quite nice. Off memory, only one or two places for squats (one doubled as the deadlift area) but was surprisingly not too busy.

There's a Go24 further down the street in North Point, that's the best equipped 24 hour gym I've seen for strength.

In terms of price it's roughly Pure >>> Waterfall = Snap > the place above Le Parc. No idea what Physical costs these days, it was so disgusting that I wouldn't go if it was free (for me, it was free at the time.)

Appreciate the info, that's useful to know. I've checked out Go24 before and that was pretty nice. Just the lack of locations as far as I remember, since I'm often out and about I currently go between several locations which are kinda spread out.

Physical I know well and I too don't like the hygiene standards there, but also the hard selling (I was pestered for the entire year before my membership expiration date twice per time - when signing in and signing out of the centre).

I'll look into the other ones you mentioned, cheers

For the "conditioning" part, most the gyms in the area that I am familiar with don't really have much for that. The 24 hour gym model doesn't really seem geared towards it. Snap has a small area for classes, but the classes I've seen are on the mild side.

Some non-24 hour options in the area are below. Suspect this isn't what you are looking for, but am adding this for completeness:

There's at least two cardio outfits in Eastern Centre, on the corner of Kings and Shipyard Lane (one is a Les Mills place called TeamX around 7/F, the other is a boxing place on 20/F). Pure will likely have decent classes. The classes in Waterfall are strictly for elderly people. There's a class-oriented place called Air in either Cityplaza 3 or 4 on the ground floor. There is F45 on Westlands Rd, but I think that F45 is a terrible idea. The best option I have seen in the area is Fitness Academy across from Casa88 on Kings Road, they are essentially a rebranded Crossfit operation and have a friendly crowd.
