    Transfering Pure Membership

    Hello,

I'm permanently leaving HongKong but still have Pure fitness membership which has 5 more months to go. I told them I want to transfer the membership to another and they said HKD1,000 should be paid as a trasnfer fee.

The question is, can I simply leave HongKong without the rest of the installments paid? My colleagues told me to leave it not paid because they cannot charge me only if my credit card has been cancelled. Is that correct??
There must be many people who are in this situation. Do any of you know how they have handled this situation?? Transfer fee is seriously necessary???? HKD1000??

    Thanks,
    Hoogie

If I am not wrong Pure is affiliated with Fitness First in other countries, in particular in Australia as we have upgraded the membership from Oz to use the gym in HK. In other words there is not transfer needed and the membership is active in both countries.

Well, hoogie, technically you can cancel your credit card so you will no longer have the pay for the rest of the installments. You get away with it but it's not honest. I do, however, see where you're coming from.

The thing is, the credit card gets punished for it, NOT the gym as when you signed up with them and started the installment contract, the credit card has paid the whole lump sum to the gym. So by cancelling your card, it doesn't affect the gym at all; it affects the credit card! Now I'm not so sure if you can get away scot-free - after all, credit cards have a vast network of debt collectors around the world.

Yes, the $1000 transfer fee is not negotiable but if you manage to sell your membership to someone else interested in the 5 months left, you may be able get the person to pay for the transfer fee. Or split it.

I understand PURE has increased the gym fees so for someone interested in joining the gym, paying the monthly rate which you signed up 2 years ago is definitely attractive!

    Good luck
