Doing the MacLehose -- please help!

    Hi all,

My trailwalker team will hike the MacLehose stage 4 to 10 from Saturday evening till Sunday morning this coming weekend.

We can't possibly carry all the water and food we need, so I was wondering if any of you might be interested in joining us for part of the hike and help us out by bringing a bit of extra water and food at some of the check points.

We will start at Shui Long Wo around 3pm Saturday, will probably reach Jat's Incline by 8pm, if you want to do a night hike with us, I invite you to meet us at Jat's Incline, which is a short Taxi ride from Wong Tai Sin MTR station. You can walk through stage 5 and 6 with us, both are fairly easy walks, you can then either take a green top minibus back to Tseun Wan and then ride the MTR, or get a Taxi home. Or you can keep walking with us... (make sure you bring a flashlight and enough batteries)

If you're a creature of the night, please consider joining us from Shing Mun reservoir at around 11 pm. There is a green top minibus that takes you up here from Tseun Wan. We can walk through Needle Hill, Grass Hill (Tso Shan), and Tai Mo Shan overnight. We will likely reach Tai Mo Shan Country Park in the early morning, you can then take a bus, minibus, or taxi back to the city. (Tseun Wan) Or you can opt to keep going with us ... You should have some hiking experiences if you join us for this walk though, there are quite a lot of steps involved, the slope up to Tai Mo Shan are also quite steep, and obviously, we will do this in the dark.

If you are a morning person, I invite you to join us at Tai Mo Shan Country Park! Either take a cap from Tseun Wan MTR, or catch the Bus #51 right near Tseun Wan MTR exit A. We can then walk through section 9 and 10 together -- both relatively easy, but my teammates and I will all be quite exhausted by that time so expect us to go very very slowly!

PM me for details, I'll give you my number and we can arrange when and where to meet up if you think you can help.

    Thanks a lot,
    -C

Is it even legal to have groupie back up?
What's to stop you from the surreptitious team change in mid trail?
In any case good luck with your traipse through the hills, and watch out for the dreaded bloody nipples

Yikes, do you have to show me that >_< I'm not wearing cotton though, and I'm wearing a sport bra, so I *should* be okay.

the groin/ thigh region is a completely different matter ... =_= Even petroleum jelly failed me. Maybe I should try duct-taping myself.

Anyway, we've already found supports for this Saturday/Sunday, thanks for looking out for us anyway.

I know you already have support for this weekend, but for future reference you should be able to carry your water/food yourselves for this sort of distance. You just each need a 5 or 10L bladder bag (depending on how much you drink - Remember that people run the Marathon de Sables with 9L of water per day so you definitely won't need more than that, especially if it's mainly at night) and a load of snacks (10 power bars should be fine- you can buy them in Never Second in the Princes building). Total weight about 7kg which should be fine- I'm assuming you're walking not running. If you want any info on ideal portable food sources for long hikes/ runs feel free to PM me.

re the groin issue, long cycling shorts, not loose shorts, and buy some Bodyglide which looks like a stick deodrant. It works much better than vaseline and isnt as sticky. Not sure where you can get it in Hk though- sorry

    Good luck on Saturday- enjoy!

I think it is a way too long training.

My experience is that up to 50 km is enough of a training. Above isn't really useful. At 50km the pain is basically the same as at 100 km.

If you want to do a "mok" walk you should probably do sections 1 2 3 4 up to the 100 mark (50 km), sections 3 and 4 being the toughest.

Thanks for the inputs guys. I ended up doing Cloudy Hill + Pat Sin Leng (Wilson Trail) in the morning, and then MacLehose 4-5-6 at night.

We already did MacLehose 1-2-3-4-5 two weeks ago. Since this is to be our last team practice, we thought we would do a long trek to boost our confidence. I still don't know how I'm going to do section 7 and 8 after 50+km though. (Needle Hill, Tso Shan, Tai Mo Shan >_<)

Anyway ... wish me luck on the 20th! Who else here is doing the MacLehose?

7 and 8 ( assuming you do less than 30 hours) will be done at night which is a lot easier (not risk to suffer from the heat)

i will be doing it again. it is a great even and a lot of fun
