    Question Gym Memberships

I will be arriving in HK in March. Probably living in Central. Are there any good gyms in the area, and how much. Any help much appreciated.

Yes there are many - california, fitness first, seasons, pure are the ones that immediately spring to mind. You may also find an apartment with a gym in it.

"How much" is an impossible question to answer. None of them have fixed rates - they all "negotiate". In order, they are approximately in the order I quoted above - from cheapest to most expensive. Pure is at least double California, possibly more.

I think you should be able to get California for about HKD300 per month, more or less, for one club on a fixed term of 1 or 2 years. Pure is, I think about 900HKD. The others fall in between. These numbers are VERY ROUGH!

Also check if the gym has corporate membership rates, which will be cheaper than walk-in rates.

I know one of the California Fitness sales managers, who is honest and will take good care of you with the best rates possible depending on what you want -- they have everything from an 8-yr. contract (no joke, it's the cheapest over the long-term) to a one-club-location/limited use to all-clubs/multiple-years to one-month memberships. Stephen Poon - mobile 95268404; tell him Bill from the Wan Chai club referred you. If you give him the parameters that you are looking for he will give you the best rates to satisfy those parameters. By the way, the benefit of having access to all locations are the group exercise classes - they are all free, and sometimes a more-conveniently-timed class is held at another location than the one you normally work out at. If you don't plan on taking any free classes then I'd just go one-location. Cheers!

    Hi Richard,

Welcome to H.K soon. I am actually selling my yoga membership with Pure and they also have gym facilities. Depends whether you want to commit to a long term or short term contract the cost can be very different.

In case you are interested in getting some more advise or take over my membership please give me a call 61321069. As I am planning to move out of H.k after March.

    Cheers, Kim
