    Buying a car in HK

I've been in HK for a few years now and thinking of getting a car. Where do I start and how to I go about the whole process ? Seems there are a lot in private ads in forums like geoexpat - if I want to buy private what documentation, forms will I need? Are there any advantages buying from a dealer?

What are the norms around organising an inspection, test drive and closing the deal? What questions should I ask the seller, what documents should I ask to see?

I also heard a lot of cars are parallel imported - how can you know if a car is parallel imported?

Your insurance company will be able to ascertain that via the vehicles VIN number, and if discovered that it is a parallel import, your insurance cost will be higher, than a locally authorised example.

An easy visual clue if the car is a private import. are one of two ways..
1/ The rego docket will mention NEW CAR as the first registration.
2/ a lot of parallel imports, if from Japan, will have 180kph limited speedometers, British imports of Euro cars, have dual kph/mph speedometers.
