buying motorbike/car in HK- pit falls?

The forms say that you can post them in. and have 72 hours

but should we go in with the seller to the Trans dept?

one guy at work told me we should - as if he has unpaid speeding tickets we wont be able to transfer the name.. ( is he talking out of his backside?)

can we just pay - him go seperately?

    is this advisable?

what else should we watch out for when buying a vehicle? ( lets not worry about mechanics etc - assume the vehicle is good )

    thanks!

if its a private seller then you definetaly should go with them as your collegues is correct, if there are outstanding tickets on the car then you wont be able to transfer it. never pay up full to the seller if you havent transfered the car ownership, always go to the TD and do it there. check the vin # in the car matches to the registration papers, some scams were the car that was shown had the correct license number plate on it but after payment the car that was delivered was different (older model) etc, its easy to change license plates but vin numbers are harder to modify.
