Hi,
I am a French citizen with the NY state driver licence.
When entering HK as a tourist, is it possible to drive a motorcycle? Buy one?
What is the process to obtain a HK driver licence?
Thanks

You need an HKID card, so not likely unless I'm mistaken.
W/o a residence permit, you can probably buy it in HK, but you won't be able to register it! You could only ride your own bike you brought with you (or one you rented--but I don't know if anyone rents bikes in HK).
or you need a friend in HK with a bike..
since most insurance here is bike based not person based...'
the phrase in the insurance is "insured for any person licensed to ride it..."
and if you have international drivers permit then you are licensed......
Why not get an international license?
believe so.. ( I dont have a car here tho and have never driven a car here.. )
but all my bike policies have said this..
whether in the international license is included I dunno - but I think so since it says something like - legally licensed to drive...
so if u got a license then you pretty much good to go..
this may explain why cops on pulling you over here just take a look to see if the bike has valid road license..
if you have your license with you and the road license hasnt expired they dont ask to see your insurance...
if you crash they may do..
but even on a speeding ticket they never asked to see proof of insurance....
in the UK you even have to produce your grandmother's birth certificate with in 5 days....![]()
