I my car (first car in HK) has built in GPS in the dash and I can't live without it. I appreciate the big screen & directions and being new here it was very helpful first few years and even know if I go out somewhere I have never been i am never apprehensive of being lost.
I bought a Kenwood stereo GPS, iPod player, speaker phone etc....mounts int he dash. I could not go anywhere without it. You will get totally lost in HK and spend 10X as long trying to find an address. The all in one units seem more practical, as the iPhone lost coverage often.
I have sygic on my iphone and has worked perfectly all the time but rarely use it now as I have learned where to go. Last time I used it was to find some obscure place out in the sticks by gold coast.
Yes, another vote for Sygic..my main problem with GPS in Hong Kong is poor signal reception in many highly built up areas with narrow streets.
Using Sygic as well, though do expect variable results in places like Mongkok, you really do also need to have a general sense of the direction you want to be going until the gps gets a decent signal again.
I have been extremely happy with the woman on my phone giving me directions.
The best part of it is that she does not get annoyed when I miss a turn ... just recalibrates and moves on...
