In my experience, the cheaper ones struggle at night.

You just need to go to the car accessories shops and they will install both front and back ones for ya, last time I checked for both front and back cameras around 800 incl installation and wiring in Kwun tong.

Back to the topic, some of these police are absolutely useless when it comes to accidents, they just dont want to deal with the paperwork, unless someone was seriously injured.

last time I had a would you believe a toyota alphard (dual license plate monkey) come into a roundabout that I was already in and trying to exit, instead of stopping and giving way, he shoots in and I have to slamm on my brakes to avoid him, i beep my horn and shout every foul words I can think off in both English and Chinese, he rolls down his windows and says he didnt do anything wrong so I said i will call the police and I did and they arrived, took down details, a few days later Tseung Kwan O police station calls me up and a women asks me details, i explain it to her and she says that I should drop the case as I might get charged for careless driving even though i explained that I was in the roundabout, he came in, in front of me from another entrance without giving way. I told this police women that next time i will go into a roundabout without giving way and let other cars crash into me, i then put the phone down. What a waste of time. rant over. my dash cam was not working at the time of incident so didnt want to waste time one it.

Also if you do not drive frequently I found the cheap ones lose their battery charge, resulting in you having to drive for 10 minutes until theres enough charge to activate the camera.

Currently tempted to get one that can record when the engine is off. I have exactly 2 bits of damage on my car both happened when it was parked correctly in one of the local car parks. Buggers hit my car and drove off.

My husband wants to change to that type. Car gets more damage in the private carpark we are in than on the road. He swears it is deliberate. And every time we away we come back to at least 2 flat tyres.

Still we aren't as badly off as the guy with the brand new BMW that got a can of paint stripper over it. don;t think I want to know who he pissed off.

    To OP

Quite usual if the damages are small and no harm done.

My bro in law last time (bumped the back of anothrr car) literally ran to the closest ATM, withdrew
2/3k amd handed them over to the other driver and it was case closed.

Of course for bigger stuff it would b different but for relatively small things it isnt unusual.

what if the damage is a bit more serious lookin?

we paid a paltry 22k for our superoo - its fine - but its more comical than economical - on the gas mileage.

what is the cut off amount for a prang,, a rear end shunt for instance could involve a lot of body work..

will ppl hand over up to 20 k? or is better to claim for that amount ( whats excesses genereally? )

Anything over 5K is usually dealt with insurance as 5K is what I seen most of the time as the excess limit, anything under 5K you need to fork it out yourself so why bother going to the insurance company.
