    Car repair

    HI
I recently, stupidly, scraped my car against another in a car park. The damage is jsut on the surface, i have scrated the corner of the front bumper and a little on the front panel. I have spoken to the owner she took photos and spoke to her mechanic who said it would cost about 2K to repair which i had agreed to. She has taken it into the mechanic for that to happen and they have come back and said it will cost 16K to repair as they will need to respray both the bumper and front panel and replace the wheel guard. It's a 10yr old mini with standard non metallic paint. This quote seems really high to me, can anyone tell me if this is about right and if not any suggestions on where i can get it fixed at a more reasonable rate.

    thanks

Sounds excessive. Maybe they try to squeeze as much as possible from you. She should get an estimation from BWM as a starting point.

I think you should get your own estimate, sounds very steep to me. I scratched someone's BMW bumper and it cost me about 1500 total.

You should have settled it on the spot by handing 2k over and have an agreement drawn up there and then, or recorded a video on your phone with her agreeing to accept 2k.

Now way will that cost 16K and nothing needs to be replaced. just a re-spray will fix it up easily. Now if she went to an official BMW place then probably thats why they suddenly quoted 16K as they are very expensive. why would the wheel guard need replacing if there is no dents???

You need to tell the person that 2K was agreed to fix the damage which is reasonable price, if she doesnt agree then you need to get it fixed for her.

which location are you in, will try to find you a paint shop so you can take the photo to them and ask how much.

then 16k is very excessive, you need a panel/body specialist to beat out the bent part and it's possible on the entire bumper needs respray, it's possible that other scratched parts don't need respray and it seems most of the other parts are superficial rubbed on paint from the other car and possibly be polished out

search on geoexpat for recommended body specialist who will charge a fraction that amount

Just got sent this pic from my brother, his mrs scratched the car recently, called up my dealer guy and got a prelim quote for 2.5 - 3K to fix it after sending him pictures of the damage.

But the paint guys are fully booked until after Chinese New Year.

You can contact him (neighbour dealer) : Ringo 66033289 and ask him to help check the cost with the paint guys.

Looks like nothing got bend and it's just the plastic parts. I would do some intensive polish first, then I Guess most will dissapear.

Same for the mini, after the polish all the back marks will be gone and it will look way less dramatic. But I guess the other party like$ drama.
