Electric motorcycle or a "normal" one ? - Biking in HK

I am having a hard time deciding, wether I want to buy a 10 kW electric scooter from China or if it should be a Yamaha R6 or the likes, or maybe go with the smaller 300-400 bikes.

I do not know how convenient an electric motorcycle would be in terms of charging points etc. Also I would have to live in a house to be able to charge it at home, and right now I live on 21st in Tai Wai :/
Regarding the sportbikes etc. I'm not sure if it is possible to take it for a trip without getting busted by the speed cameras - I do see some bikers on big bikes, but I wonder if they are actually able to ride them without spanking them, or if they have a trick to avoid the cameras..
    - Bikers are mostly only a danger to themselves I think, and I'm not the one speeding in crowded areas. I am very considerate in traffic.

Also, can anyone tell me if there is a "Hong Kong Bikers" group somewhere doing trips and stuff?

Really want to ride in this weather and with these nice twisty roads over here

Is the Chinese 10kW scooter road legal in HK?

Where I come from, I just need what is called an EEC documentation(Europe). I do not know which standards they have in HK. But of course I will look into that.

The Chinese Electric Scooters are not road legal in HK. Your better off with the 300-400 cc bikes.

yes the trick is to release the throttle when u see an orange box on the side of the road - they are usually advertised with a sign saying speed camera as well..

as for cops with speed guns - then u jus need to ride slow for a while to work out how they operate... also if you are making good road observation then you should spot them in plenty of time to slow generally,,, if u cant then perhaps a motorbike isnt for you.

personally I wont speed in built up areas either - but some dual carriage way riding at the speed limit on a bike is more dangerous...

OH - as for original question - dont think an electric is for you,, how u gonna charge it? will it fit in the lift?

Where did you get that information? The manufacturer says that it is road legal in HK.

    Thanks for the group!

Hmm okay, sounds fair. I have been looking at this R6 2006 but I'm not sure what a fair price would be.

We also have alot of "photo wagons" and police officers with speed guns etc. where I come from. I have not received a speeding ticket yet

Oh, yeah so a car does not come bumping into you from the back ?

Well, I was thinking, that if I just wheelie it in, it should be able to fit I was thinking that maybe I could ask people in the villages nearby.. Electric is SO much fun and you will always be the first past the traffic lights when they go green

after an experience in Mong Kok - I would never want to be too hasty goin thru a 'just turned' green light at speed.. some 6th sense said dont go thru - i couldnt see left side of junction cos big bus was in left lane and not movin - right lane was clear.. an a mini bus cut right across where I woulda been had I given it gas - light had been gree for me for 2 seconds.. )

600 is great in HK - u can thrash it hell in 1st an 2nd

only a few stationary camera's here.. the only one I saw was in TKO - actually it was one of those on a tripod at side of road - plod was drinking coffee in a van...

I find drivin in a calm sedate manner usually results in a taxi or what ever tryin to undertake u half in your lane - or sit right up your arse ... much better to filter to front and burn traffic off at the light an sit on barely legal - ( 64 in a 50 - 84 in 70 etc )

R6 sounds ok - but I'd get sore wrists - an neck ache tryin to see in traffic... get upright naked or supermoto in my opinion.

Wow, those minibus drivers are freaking psychopaths!

Hehe 1st and 2nd.. That was actually what I was thinking :/ hmm.. KTM would also be nice but too much maintenance.

I will not be using it so much in traffic though. Mostly for country side joy rides

You use your bike for commuting?
