    Octopus to pay toll roads?

I hope to be riding soon and want to know if toll booths will accept octopus for payment? Stopping to get coins out does not sound fun especially with gloves on. I plan on just strapping it to my wrist for an easy swipe, this is what I do to get in/out of parking garage.

No octopus. Cash only. If that's a pain, you can sign up for auto toll. Not sure if that works any differently for a bike, but don't see why it should.

its weird tho - sometimes the Q for the auto toll is longer than the pay cash ones..

+1 to enforced octopus compatibility on all tunnels etc

The Autotoll Company is certainly a really good example why monopolies suck and give the least possible service for the most amount of money.

    2. Autotoll service for motorcycles is currently unavailable

Didn't realise there is no autotoll for bikes.

At the Eastern and Western Tunnels there are pre-paid tickets however - for purchase from Wilson Parking. For the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, buy them from the Admin Building. Possibly elsewhere, not sure. Might be slightly easier than fumbling for coins...

I really wish they would just stick Octopus on, would really save a lot of time for us and drivers. Also there are occasional accidents where someone ploughs into the back of a bike that's stopped to pay. What I do is stick my Kriega Kube Pocket (http://www.kriega.com/kube-pocket/) to the middle of the bars and have cash in there. Still, the other day I opened the zip and it almost tore my $100 in half, and the attendant wouldn't accept it for around 2 minutes whilst I explained I had no other money on me and everyone had to wait behind until he finally took it. Other times I've dropped coins all over the floor because my gloves picked them up with the cash.

Octopus could pose a problem because people would pull in expecting to use it and realize they have no money on it...... *envisioning my my wife at countless MTR turnstyles and having this happen

Plus you would still have to come to a stop and use the octopus so not really solving the core issue of traffic flow.

The solution...discount the toll fee for people who use the autotoll, or conversely raise the price for people who don't. Give people enough of an incentive so they use the autotoll system.

But it's a problem only for people that have no cash too.

There is really no plausible argument for NOT having Octopus. And those who object, easy, just don't use it.
