Our past Prius got close to 1000km a tank ( 45 litres ) from a 1.5 litre Aitkinson cycle petrol engine & electric ( when combined ) and that was a 2004 model that had a substantially bigger cabin/boot space ( a noticeably bigger car inside ) than the golf. which cost sub $800 to fill. Actually back then it used to cost us less than $600 to fill. Petrol being a lot more $ now.

My wifes 300hp ( 218kw ) Lexus GS450h is impressive in regard to fuel efficiency, @ between 6 - 8 litres per 100km giving us between 800 - 1000km range from one full tank.
That's impressive for a car of this size, safety and weight.

The golf is err only o.k

My cousins VW Golf Blue Motion ( diesel ) in Paris is a far more impressive car at around 70mpg in my opinion, VW's small petrol engine offerings are a bit average. My dads old 2011 Jetta DSG 2.0TDI ( turbo diesel ) got 1100 - 1200kms out of a 55 litre tank, now that's impressive and it was lovely to drive, with plenty of torque, never felt strained with 4 people on board like it's going to throw a conrod like the 1.4 petrols do. Not their best motor by any stretch in my opinion.
your prius is a hybrid, even more better economy, but take in account that the ni-cad/ni-mh will have to replaced every 10-12 years at almost HK$25-28k, it's not economical in that term.

states in Chinese local forum, has receipt for confirmation

diesel private cars are not allowed in HK

the fact that 1.4 engine is very economical with compromise too much on performance, and road tax is cheap, make it's ideal, but 0-60 in 9.3 sec is pretty decent consider displacement, as well as put shame many other cars with bigger engines

You can own diesels here as long as they comply with the emissions rules of HK. Audi have done well with their Q7 3.0 TDi although a big car. Porsche does advertise the Cayenne TD here but no one has bought one!
