Potential n00b question: if a car has passed its MOT and a 4-month licence is purchased, can you then use the same MOT to buy up the remaining 8 months? Or do you need another MOT?

the MOT is valid for 1 year so even if you purchase just 4 month and once that expires, you just go and pay for another 4 months without new MOT.

that's totally wrong. the MOT is valid for only 4 months from the date of issue.
it states that clearly on it...

yes the mot is valid for the initial purpose of an expired vehicle license renewal, as long as you use it within 4 months from date of issue, it is effective for one year, you dont need to do another for the duration of a 12 month license. If the vehicle owner has licensed their car
for four months, they can renew their license for another two blocks of 4 months, totalling 12 months. The td will issue you a document stating that you can renew the licence in blocks of 4 months a further two times.

You need to re-read Turtles question, if MOT was done and 4 months license PURCHASED which mean the MOT document was USED.

but he's asking if it can be reused after the one time when renewing 4 mths.
